Know your future career today.
From the age of 12 and along the way, we start
trying to find out who we really want to be basing on our interests,
experiences and the environment we live in. It’s all human and natural to have
a series of career dreams. Today you want to be a doctor, the next time u you
want to be a teacher and at the end you turn out to be something totally
different.
The biggest percentage of people end up studying
things that are so altered from their interests, some changing from one field
to another until they get one that best suits their interests and the few lucky
ones do what they were interested in from the beginning.
We always sit back and criticize how our education
system does not let us find out what we are interested in because, we continuously
base on the points to know what to do in the higher levels. And yet we could do
something about it. If you had a chance
to interact with kids in middle school or high school, they are filled with delightful
dreams which are all shattered in the long run. Because of no guidance, the kids
end up only looking at the points or the marks forgetting that there is
something behind the marks and that’s the desire and interest for a particular
field.
Technology has changed people’s way of thinking and made
them more creative. Today kids find out their interest before they even get to
choose their majors at the university. Different organizations have given
children a chance to explore talent and interest in the field of technology,
with programs that are guided and children based. Organizations like Outbox Uganda,
has a Kids Computer Program (KPC) that teaches kids between the age of 7 and 15
basic computer and programming skills.
Not to forget, the long awaited Technovation Challenge
is yet to start this month with amazing young minds all set for the long, fun
and educative technology journey. Thrilling teams of girls in primary, secondary
signed up from Arua, Kampala Mbarara and all over the world ready for the
challenge. These young minds are going to come up with mobile applications that
are going to solve some of the identified problems in their communities and the
winning team will walk away with $1000.
There is a greater benefit for the girls since each one of them will acquire life
skills similar to team sharing, collaboration, Entrepreneurial skills, ,
explore careers in technology, gain marketing skills and gain programming skills
like developing android applications, windows application and IOS mobile applications.
These girls will also explore the potential careers in the Technology field.
A national challenge has also been organized by
partner universities like Makerere University and Mbarara University of Science
and Technology. Female students at the university in their first and second
year and secondary school girls will participate in the challenge. Many ladies
from different institutions and schools have registered, remarkable teams of
strong ladies interested in technology with a lot of anxiety to learn and
innovate technology break troughs are set and ready for the Tech journey.
With these opportunities, an engineered future with
a lot of young, inspiring and innovative ladies in the field of technology is
all that I can visualize. Foundations for career guidance is available for all
the ladies at all times. Ladies, are you all ready to seize all the
opportunities?
